In April 2025, members of the Dolphin Acoustics Project had the opportunity to present our work at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research in Newcastle. The biology and statistics teams both presented posters on their work, whilst the machine learning and data management team held talks. All the work presented by the Dolphin Acoustics VIP was outstanding, and received excellent feedback from both researchers and members of the public.
The VIP spent 2 days in Newcastle, and many travelled together (very early!) from St Andrews. At the conference, students had the chance to listen to a range of research talks form all sorts of fields - from medicine to engineering, history and anthropoglogy, there were discussions on every possible area. There were also alloted times for poster presentations, and students presented their work, as well as disussing other projects with peers. It was a great opportunity to network, and students had the chance to meet many interesting reserachers. The snacks were great too!
The VIP team also went out for a delicious dinner to celebrate the event at the end of the first day. At the end of the conference, some of the students explored Newcastle a bit too!
